In Captain America: The First Avenger, Steve Rogers volunteers for a top secret research project that turns him into Captain America, a superhero dedicated to defending USA ideals.
This Movie Stars: Chris Evans as Steve Rogers/Captain America, Tommy Lee Jones as Colonel Chester Phillips, and Hugo Weaving as Johann Schmidt/Red Skull
Going into this movie I expected it to be an excellent movie, the trailers were well made, and Marvel has made dozens of great films in the past. So i was very excited to see this movie, unfortunately, i did not enjoy this movie at all. There were some good things to it, which I will go over soon, but basically, this is a bland, cookie-cutter superhero movie, with barely anything new that is brought to the table. First off, the villain: Red Skull played by Hugo Weaving. Hugo Weaving is one of my favorite actors working today for his performances in V for Vendetta, and The Matrix, but as the Red Skull, he does not play the villain well. Red Skull was not menacing and at times was kind of goofy, which I did not expect from a superhero movie. Chris Evans did a fantastic job as Captain America however, and I was glad he returned for Marvel's The Avengers. The rest of the cast was okay too. I enjoyed the first half of this movie, but when Captain America got his suit, everything went wrong in the movie. They showed all of the action scenes in the trailer, so there was nothing new to be seen. It was somewhat interesting with Chris Evan's performance but that is about it. There really isn't anything new or different in this movie at all. I feel like if this movie came out years ago when the first Spiderman movies were coming out, then it might have been better, because we wouldn't have had so many superhero movies every year. Sometimes things get stale and repetitive and superhero movies need to have something interesting or unique about them to make them stand out, this movie did not. It took some interesting directions, like using Captain America as a propaganda piece, but repetitive action, a goofy villain, and a trailer that shows way more than it should makes this movie unejoyable 3.6/10
